Put a pause between you and the scroll.

The honest part

The feed was engineered to win.

Autoplay, infinite scroll, and a fresh hit every few seconds. Willpower alone was never a fair fight — so ScrollRot changes the rules instead.

// time

"Five minutes" becomes an hour

You open the app for a quick break and resurface much later with no idea where the time went. The scroll never gives you a natural stopping point.

// focus

Your attention gets fragmented

Each swipe resets your concentration. Deep work gets harder, and the urge to check "just one more" follows you into everything else.

// autopilot

The next video plays itself

There's no decision to make, so you never make one. By the time you'd choose to stop, the algorithm has already chosen the next ten for you.

How it works

One small pause. A completely different habit.

ScrollRot slots a moment of friction into the exact spot the apps removed it — between one video and the next.

01

Install in seconds

Add it to Chrome or Firefox. No signup, no setup — it starts working the next time you open a feed.

02

Hit a deliberate delay

A short pause appears before each video. That gap is enough for your brain to ask: do I actually want this?

03

Decide on purpose

Keep watching, or close the tab and get on with your day. Set daily limits and focus sessions to make it automatic.

Features

Small, sharp tools for scrolling less

Everything runs locally in your browser. Turn on only what you need.

⏱️

Custom delays

Tune the pause from 3 to 10 seconds and find the friction that actually stops you.

🚦

Daily video limits

Cap how many videos you'll watch per day. Hit the limit and the feed locks until tomorrow.

Grayscale mode

Drain the color out of the feed. Less visual pull means a lot less temptation.

📊

Usage tracking

See exactly how many videos you watched on each platform, every day. No guessing.

🍅

Focus / Pomodoro lockout

Start a session and short-form content is fully blocked until your timer is up.

🔒

Genuinely private

No analytics, no tracking, no account. Your data never leaves your device — full stop.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is ScrollRot really free?
Yes — completely free, with no premium tier, subscription, or hidden upsell. It's a tool I wanted to exist, so I made it and gave it away.
Does it collect or sell my data?
No. ScrollRot has no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends your browsing anywhere. Everything — your settings, limits, and usage counts — stays on your device.
Which platforms does it work on?
YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook Reels, and Snapchat Spotlight, on the desktop versions in Chrome and Firefox.
Will it slow down my browser?
No. It's lightweight and only runs on the supported sites — everywhere else it does nothing at all.
How is this different from just blocking the sites?
Hard blockers are easy to resent and easy to disable. ScrollRot keeps your access but adds friction and awareness, so you build the habit of choosing — and you can still fully block content during focus sessions when you want to.
Does it work on mobile?
It's a desktop browser extension for Chrome and Firefox today. Mobile browsers don't support extensions the same way, so phone support isn't available yet.
